Objective: To maintain and oversee the organization’s financial operations.
Skills & Attributes:

Responsibilities:
- Track all incoming monies and expenses for the organization (can be done through our website)
- Maintain bank account
- Report to Steering Committee members; coordinate with Web Master
- Oversee payments at LGBT Therapists events and make deposits
- Average Time Commitment: 1.5 hours per month

Community RAAN Seeking Greater Minnesota Providers
Greetings, I am the business manager at RAAN (Rural AIDS Action Network) and would like some help with a new program. Our agency has received a block of money to provide Mental Health Services to persons living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. We would like to set up fee for service arrangements with up to 5 providers in greater Minnesota (outside Twin Cities).
Also we have a GLBT counselor on contract to run support groups who moved here from New Mexico. He would like to become MA licensed/certified. Is there somebody who can help us with direction on how to start the process?

“All school staff and adults of PreK-12 schools – inclusive of paraprofessionals and volunteers (e.g. playground monitors, bus drivers, lunchroom staff, and/or custodial staff) – need training on an annual basis in relevant and current strategies and techniques to address bullying, harassment and intimidation.” August 1, 2012, the MN Governor’s Task Force on the Prevention of School Bullying
PFLAG’s 2nd Annual Cultivating Respect: Safe Schools for All conference is designed to meet this need. Help us by offering an interactive and practical workshop for school personnel (teachers, social workers, psychologists, school nurses, school board members, administrators, GSA leaders, superintendents, and counselors), parents of GLBT individuals, and GLBT youth and allies in middle school through college.

Respect Awareness Project of Servant Hearts

The 3rd Annual Respect Awareness Week - Rooted in Faith: God's Amazing Grace Embraces ALL People. Each year's focus is on educating and raising awareness to the needs of LGBTQ people and the contributions they make to life in Greater MN.
Our 2012 Respect Awareness Week will speak directly to the welcoming of LGBTQ people into church congregations/faith communities, especially those that may be grappling with the question(s) of creating inclusive practices and reaching out in welcome, to LGBTQ people. Three days of events, including keynote speech on congregation 'Readiness, Hospitality & Courage' by the Rev. Dr. Joretta Marshall, Executive VP, Dean at Brite Divinity School, Fort Worth TX, 'Coffee & Conversation - Engaging Congregations on Gender, Sexuality & Justice' discussion, & premiere showing of Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson's documentary, 'Love Free or Die'. All events are free and open to all wishing to engage in respectful conversation and faithful dialogue.

Survey Addressing Beleifs about LGBT Therapists

Requesting assistance in replicating a 1994 study of mental health professionals’ beliefs about gay, lesbian and bisexual therapists working with children, adolescents, couples and families. Through this study we hope to gather data about changes in the beliefs of individual therapists and the professional community regarding the impact of therapists’ sexual orientation on their clinical work in order to improve clinical training and professional practice. As we have found it difficult to identify a diverse pool of gay, lesbian, and bisexual therapists we would greatly appreciate your help in further distributing this questionnaire.

In The News American Bisexual Community Leaders and Activists Attend 2012 White House LGBT Pride Reception
On the afternoon of Friday, June 15th, President Barack Obama hosted a reception at the White House to celebrate LGBT Pride month. The place was packed; rough estimates peg the head count at around 500, including eight American bisexual community leaders and activists. Among them was Lauren Beach, a Minnesota-based law student and PhD candidate. Beach, a bisexual activist, co-chairs the Bisexual Organizing Project (BOP) and is an organizer with annual BECAUSE Conference.

NYT: What's So Bad About a Boy Who Wants to Wear a Dress?
New York Times, August 8
The night before Susan and Rob allowed their son to go to preschool in a dress, they sent an e-mail to parents of his classmates. Alex, they wrote, “has been gender-fluid for as long as we can remember, and at the moment he is equally passionate about and identified with soccer players and princesses, superheroes and ballerinas (not to mention lava and unicorns, dinosaurs and glitter rainbows).” They explained that Alex had recently become inconsolable about his parents’ ban on wearing dresses beyond dress-up time. After consulting their pediatrician, a psychologist and parents of other gender-nonconforming children, they concluded that “the important thing was to teach him not to be ashamed of who he feels he is.” Thus, the purple-pink-and-yellow-striped dress he would be wearing that next morning. For good measure, their e-mail included a link to information on gender-variant children.

Washington Blade: LGBT-inclusive national suicide strategy unveiled
"A new strategy unveiled Monday aimed at reducing the suicide rate in the United States includes a section on the rate of suicide for LGBT people undefined saying they may be particularly at risk because of “minority stress” and “institutional discrimination” resulting from anti-gay laws on the books.”

The Advocate: LGBT Issues Highlighted in 2012 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention
“Although the report summarizes findings about various segments of the LGBT population based on gender, age, and ethnicity, it also notes the limits of the research and statistics on LGBT people, particularly transgender individuals. Since death certificates do not mention sexual orientation and gender identity, it isn’t clear whether LGBT people actually have a higher rate of suicide than heterosexual people. Studies from the past four decades, however, have indicated that LGBT people may have higher rates of suicide ideation and attempts, according to the report. As for preventing suicide among LGBT people, the strategy recommends positive moves such as family acceptance and access to LGBT-affirming mental health treatment. Other strategies include reducing stressors associated with sexual orientation and gender-related prejudice, reducing bullying and changing discriminatory laws. No specific laws, however, are mentioned.”
